The welfare of the people and the welfare of business are inexorably entwined. It is all too fashionable to think of business as having interests that are the opposite of "the people". Nothing could be further from the truth. The facts are incontrovertible. As the graph from U.S. data shows, 90% of adults in poverty simply don't have full-time jobs. The range across the states is from 87% to 94% - by all measures universal. So for anyone to think that "businesses be damned" helps the poor, that person is woefully misguided and ignorant.
Whether it was Jesus (Mathew 4:19) or Lao Tzu who first memorialized the saying, "Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime", the saying isn't "Teach a man carpentry and you feed him for a lifetime". Why? Carpentry requires there to be a job, if teaching carpentry is to put food on the table. Fishing, however, is self-employment with food as the earnings.
That is probably why training the unemployed or "underemployed" in skills for jobs that don't exist - for simply the hope of finding a job in the future - has failed. and has failed for decades.
So, for poverty to end, jobs must be created FIRST.
WIth that in mind: Maybe you know that in 2019 the number of business starts in the U.S. was 22% lower than the peak from 2000-2019. Maybe you know how your state or community has performed - encouraging or discouraging small business creation. We know how it is performing, why that is, and how to fix it - and the resources.
Maybe you know the business survival performance history of your state or community - once a business relocates or starts, then the probability it will succeed. If it is underperforming the US average, we know why that is and how to fix it - and the resources.

Although Governance, Inc., was founded only 20 years ago, its roots date back almost 40 years with its founder's pioneering activities in public-private partnerships and economic development. Considered by some to be economists and by others negotiators, we provide a complete solution for government to find financial resources through non-conventional solutions. Sometimes the need is driven by basic finances - a shortfall in revenue creating pressures to cut personnel and services. Sometimes the need is driven by the more complex issue of job retention or growth - to satisfy political, societal and financial pressures. Regardless of the cause, Governance has created and delivered the solution.
It is important to understand that Governance looks at every proposition from the perspective of fairness – both societal and financial. When dealing with the challenge of jobs and private sector investment, It is through this lens that we have been able to successfully craft agreements between government and companies that have saved literally tens of thousands of jobs – while delivering net-income enhancement to both government and private sector.
As a result, we have preserved manufacturing jobs – high wage, highly valued jobs that don’t require advanced classroom-gained skills – at the same time that there has been an accelerated flight of manufacturing jobs from the U.S. Of note, we have preserved them in “high-cost” states such as New York, Connecticut and California, as well as in “low-cost” states.
